  • Yes, participation in the Hackathon is free of charge. However, participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation and accommodations. Students may apply for subsidized transportation through our National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD®) Scholars Program.

  • No, this year’s hackathon will be conducted solely in-person at the Harvard Science and Engineering Complex (150 Western Avenue, Boston, MA 02134). There is no remote option.

  • This event is open to all students in undergraduate and graduate institutions irrespective of geographical location; please register with your institutional email.

  • A background in biology and coding experience can be beneficial but is not required to participate in this hackathon. Enthusiasts from all fields are welcome! Additionally, scientists will hold office hours during the event to provide guidance and answer questions.

  • Our hackathon is an overnight event, offering a 24/7 workspace for participants. While you’re welcome to take naps or rest during the event, overnight accommodations will not be provided.

    To make your experience more comfortable, we encourage you to bring essential items like sleeping bags and toiletries. If preferred, you’re also welcome to arrange your own accommodations outside the venue.

  • Bring all the essentials you’ll need for your project, such as:

    • Laptop

    • Chargers, extension cords, and adapters

    • Headphones

    • Note-taking materials (notebook, pens, or a tablet)

    Additionally, consider bringing items to ensure your comfort and productivity during the hackathon:

    • Sleeping bag or blanket (for naps)

    • Comfortable clothing

    • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, medications, etc.)
